How to hear it

Life notes / jeeva
Gandhara (G) and Dhaivata (D) are the identity/emphasis notes (the sources label them vadi/samvadi rather than jeeva): D noteworthy in the arohana, G in the avarohana.
Resting notes / nyasa
Panchama (P) is the named nyasa svara (Shadja is an implied universal landing).
Signature phrases / prayoga
Characteristic identifying phrases S R2 G R1 S N1 S and P D2 N1 D1 P (mixing R2 with R1 and bringing in N1 and D2, illustrating the near-all-swara character). Raga Pravaham notes 5 anya swaras (chatusruti ri, antara ga, prati ma, chatusruti dha, kakali ni), i.e. all 12 notes are used.
Ornament / gamaka
Gamaka is central to the raga's identity; oscillation is concentrated on gandhara (G) and dhaivata (D), the G in descent making one feel the true spirit of the scale. No named gamaka types are mapped to specific swaras in the accessible sources.
